DreKo Music Brand Partnership Jingle Project

This is a jingle/music video project. Its mission is to attract and gain brand partnerships with 3 major brands: McDonald's Corporation (MCD)General Motors Company (GM), and Ice Cube's Friday Movie Franchise.

Goal: Appeal to McDonald's Corporation (MCD), General Motors Company (GM), and Ice Cube's Friday Movie Franchise, through creating a catchy jingle and music video that supports the missions of each brand. This jingle project will help establish a strategic brand partnership with McDonald's, General Motors, and Ice Cube to enhance each brand's recognition and recall. This jingle project aims to create an emotional connection with consumers, build a distinct brand identity and personality, and reach new audiences. Additionally, it seeks to generate excitement and buzz around the products of these brands while maintaining relevance and freshness. Ultimately, the objective is to make these brands more memorable, appealing, and pertinent to their target audience.

Research: Yes, McDonald's pays for the jingles used in their commercials. For instance, when the "I'm Lovin' It" campaign launched in 2003, the fast-food giant reportedly paid Justin Timberlake $6 million to sing it. The creators and performers of commercial jingles are compensated for their work. Compensation can include an upfront fee or royalties based on the ad's usage. In the two decades since, other celebrities, from Destiny’s Child to Brian Cox, have put their spins on the tune. Its origins and credits have been the subject of much debate, but one thing is clear: It’s one of the most recognizable jingles in the world.

Also, in February 2003, McDonald’s asked 14 agencies across several countries to pitch ideas for a global campaign centered around music. Franco Tortora, co-founder and CEO of German music production company Mona Davis, told Marketing Brew.

Around that time, the company posted its first-ever quarterly loss, and shareholders weren’t pleased, hence the massive call for ideas, according to Colleen Fahey, the executive creative director at the agency then responsible for in-store and promotional marketing for McDonald’s (then called Frankel & Co., now called Arc Worldwide).

McDonald’s asked for the song to be hip-hop since it was losing ground with young consumers at the time and wanted to change that, Tortora said. According to Tortora, German agency Heye & Partner had already created the slogan “I’m Lovin’ It” as part of the pitch process and then brought Mona Davis in to write music to accompany it. Hip-hop was born in the US, so he thought the German team didn’t stand a chance.

Yes, Cadillac did license Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" for a commercial in the early 2000s. It was the first time the band had allowed one of their songs to be used in a commercial, and they reportedly received a large fee for it. The commercial, which featured a Cadillac driving on a highway and speeding onto a moving truck, aired around 2004. Some sources suggest the song's use, combined with a Cadillac redesign, contributed to a sales increase for the carmaker.
